A Time in My Life

Here is a true story of me during my high school days. One day I was seating on my desk when I overheard a group of my classmates mumbling about building a band and that they were looking a somebody to complete the group. I said to my self really! a band? Mind you I was 15 and we were basically in the same age group. And I never really imagine any of them had played any instruments and actually being good enough or crazy enough to start one. Talk about confidence level must be way up there with these guys. Of course this was in the early 90’s where rock bands where all the rage. As my curiosity was indeed spark I face them just to listen to what the heck they were talking about. to my surprise one of them who happens to be a neighbor ask if I have a keyboard at home. Truthfully I said “Yes” and added “It belongs to my brother” for some reason he thought I played the keyboard and actually good at it. On the contrary I told the him that my skill level is way below mediocre, But some reason none of them believe me, I was in the schools drum and bugle Corp which is totally different. But, that’s probably why they didn’t believe me, other than the musically incline part. Anyway, he told me to be at his house on this date and time for sorting out.

Anyway to make the story short, I suck at playing keyboard though true be told I was in tune all the time with only my left hand playing, imagine that! our supposed our lead vocalist/guitar sounds funny so end I up as lead vocalist, not exactly the place where I should be, but what the heck just happened, Right!. Anyway, the aftermath of that deserve a moment of its own. Point is, when my brother bought his first keyboard, I tried to learn how to play the thing, self taught as one might say, But gave up for lack of instructions doubled with laziness and got nothing out of it, this was before I entered high school. Of course there a lot of books pertaining to this specific topic, never really had access to any of it and forget private lessons those people are expensive, and in my family when it comes to music everything is self taught and if you don’t have any reference to guide you. Mind you there is no such thing as the information super highway. Unlike today, Dang! I wish I had this back then. But Sometime we don’t get what we wish for, but that was then, now however its different, and this is what I’ve found.
