Cherry Mobile Cosmos Z2 the Preview
A Mobile Communications Company in the Philippines, Cherry Mobile, just announced Cosmos Z2 a 2nd generation of the Cosmos series Z. The Cosmos series is what Cherry Mobile calls high-end Smartphone in the mid-range price category and hare is my take on the cake.
So, How does this 2nd generation Cosmos Z2 differ form its predecessor?
Let start with the looks, the old Cosmos Z reminds me of Samsung with its circular round edge that on a first glance you’ll mistaken it right away as Samsung product if it weren’t for the fact that you’re in a cherry mobile both and until you get your hands on it. The latest Cosmos Z2 however is different as Cherry mobile overhauled the whole thing and now it reminds me of Sony Xperia at first glance and like the previous old Cosmos Z eventually any resemblance of the above mention brand dissipate as soon as you get up close and personal.
But what about the inner workings of this latest installment?

Obviously, there are changes as compared to its predecessor. To start, Cherry Mobile Cosmos Z2 boast a Mediatek Octa-Core and this is not like the Samsung version of what octa-core is according to Samsung’s defination but a true octa-core that uses all 8 cores simultaneously. Cherry Mobile claims to be the first local company in the country to sports a true octa-core gadget for the 1st quarter of this year, though another company, Star Mobile’s Diamond X1 was said to have released their own true octa-core in the market since last week. Of course it depends on how you define a mobile phone, lets put it this way, would you call Cosmos Z2 a phablet? or a smartphone?. Technically speaking Phablets have the screen size of 5” to 6.9’’ based on that assumption; Cosmos Z2 came in 2nd to Diamond X1 since both are technically Phablets. Out of the box the Cosmos Z2 runs on Jelly Bean 4.2 but it can be upgraded to Android‘s latest OS KitKat. Aside from the processor overhaul Cosmos Z2 has a 2GB of ram as compared to 1 GB of Ram from the old Cosmos Z. Like the Old Cosmos Z both units dish out 16GB of internal memory but Z2 however can be expanded to 64 GB as compare to 32 GB maximum from its previous version. As for the camera, Display, connectivity and battery, it is pretty much the same as the old Cosmos Z and to be honest it would have been a good choice for Cherry Mobile to level up on the battery as both Z and Z2 sports the same 2000Mah power pack, which I think brings the Z2 a bit underpowered for a full HD Octa-core device, it would be a great thing if something more pronounce like a 3000Mah battery for its latest installment. But you can’t have everything in life, in the end what Cherry Mobile’s Cosmos Z2 offers to its user is a quick responsive Device, a bigger Ram with even a bigger expandable memory and probably less in usage time. The Cosmos Z2 is slated to be out in the market by early February or March 2014 and priced at P12,999.
