A Look on Sins of the Solar Empire Trinity
Sins of the Solar Empire Trinity
I just got a copy of Sins of the Solar Empire Trinity, and I’m very empress with it, Honestly I’m very much new to this type of strategy game though it’s pretty much like many other RTS game that I’ve played before, in this case however, it move the Real Time Strategy game to a new never before seen heights. Basically, Real Time Strategy Games are games that are played in grand epic proportion. Imagine armies collide to a scale that almost mimics the real thing and best part of all is this, it’s in the comfort of your own personal cushion. Personally I’ve been a fan of strategy game since I played the original Dune back in the old days. Though truth be told I’ve played other PC game genre before, admittedly they were fun to some extent but nothing can get me glued to a PC more than a good ol RTS game, of course it doesn’t mean that all strategy games and anything related to it are created equal and believe me I’ve played a lot of crappy RTS game since then. Having said that or in this case, having written that, I’ve also come across really great games that are worth mentioning and this is one of them. Though truth be told I found about it a little late, talking about going out of my man cave every once in a while.
On a good not, the wonderful thing about this game is that it’s a different strategy game altogether. Basically Sins of a Solar Empire is categorized under the RTS banner but designated as RT4X, it’s a turn base strategy game without the turns which is replaced by real time format hence RT4X, which is a first for me not to mention the game publishers want to call it that way. Sins of a Solar Empire have the basic real time elements coupled with elements the so called Turn Base Strategy game which is the 4X that stands for “eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate“. Very cool!, this type of genre provides a whole new experience for strategy gamer like myself. While turn base strategy games put gamers in the waiting list, this particular game however put you in constant edge and on the move.
As mention earlier I got a copy the game Sins of the Solar Empire Trinity. It’s a compendium of three games of the Sin of the Solar Empire series. Basically what I got is the original game plus 2 expansions. The Sins on a Solar Empire: Entrenchment and Sins of a Solar Empire: Diplomacy. On March of last year 2011 the guys that brought this one of a kind game released Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion a stand alone sequel that promises’ more mind bugling goodies than the previous game. It’s another thing to look forward to. Personally I’ve seen the thriller and it is indeed a mouth watering prospect. As one can surmise this particular post is not exactly a review but more of a rough personal commentary. As I’m sure that there are plenty of so called official reviews about this game that has sprung in the net over the years since it was released back in 2008. And since I’m a late comer to this, it seems a waste of time to make a game review.
Playing the Game
In every game there is this story line with in a story line that involves certain heroes to work with. Usually, the gamer take on that character’s identity and dictate the outcome by going through certain series of campaigns. We basically see this in all RTS games, from the classic Dune, Starcraft, Red Alert, etc…. But you won’t see that in The Sins of the Solar Empire which surprise me the first time I played it. I was expecting something like, a Captain of dilapidated transport ship whose tactical prowess wriggles his way to supreme fleet commander and take out the enemy fleet after fleet and planet after planet, which wasn’t the case. The only story line you’ll get to have is the main story line of three sentient species slugging out at each other to the pulp.
Highly recommended
Sins of a Solar Empire and its subsequent sequel, open new genre in strategy game. It pushes the envelope even further. And you really need to play turn base game first before you play Sins of a Solar Empire in order to appreciate the difference as you play the game, it’s extremely fun. And for that I highly recommend it.
